I wanted to incorporate some small business support in my blog. To kick this off I chose my favorite small business. Charleigh Bee Designs has a ton of affordable, great quality earrings. I am so excited to get the inside scoop from the founder Kim Cross and share it with you guys!
Where did your creative spark begin- Can you trace the path/timeline that got you to create Charleigh Bee’s Design?
I have bought from small shops for as long as I can remember and really wanted to take a stab at making my own earrings. From the time I was little, I was always crafting with my mom so crafting is nothing new to me. About 5 years ago, my best friend and I started a party decor shop on Etsy because we were always making our own girl’s birthday decorations. That was the first time I entered the business side of crafting.
What Inspires Your Creativity?
I love looking at new patterns of fabric and trying to match them with different texture pieces (leathers, metals, acrylic, etc.) It is such a fun process
How have you grown your business from an idea to where it is now?
My friends and family have for sure helped me launch my business! I have also tried to be more active on social media to help with my business
What type of obstacles did you overcome to be here now?
I think the hardest part is finding the time to be as creative as I would like. As a 4th grade teacher and mom of 2, life gets super busy! I always try to carve out a few hours a week for creativity.
What have you learned so far about your business/creativity that you can share with others?
Give yourself grace and listen to your customers! The best ideas will come from your customer base. Also, never be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and try new things. Some of my best sellers are earrings I never thought I would make!
What advice would you give to someone who is starting a crafting business? (I hope this makes sense)
Know what you want to make before you start. I find that a lot of makers try to get involved in too many things at once and they never perfect one item.
How can people connect with you?
I hope ya’ll enjoy this inside scoop! Thanks Kim for opening up.
