8 Ideas When You Need To Spend Time Alone & Recharge

Lets be honest, Sometimes doing things for ourselves just doesn’t feel right. We all have a to-do lists that run miles long, children to attend to, and spouses that we need to make sure is getting the love and attention they deserve. 

I wanted to find biblical scripture to support that I need to take care of myself so I can be a Godly wife, mom, & friend. Here’s what I found…

Genesis 2:2
“By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work”
This tells me the importance of Rest. While God created the world, he considered it all to be good. And although he did nothing but rest on the seventh Day, it was considered a good thing. 

Exodus 20:10
“But the seventh day is a sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns.”
When God was giving 10 Principles to his people for a guide as to how they should be living, rest was listed fourth.

Luke 10:41-42 
“Martha, Martha,’The Lord answered, ‘you are worried and upset about many thing, but few things are needed– or indeed only one. Mary has chosen that is better, and it will not be taken away from her.
We have nothing in this life if we aren’t taking the time to rest in the Lord and soak up all his wisdom.

Mark 1:35
“Very Early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.”
Even Jesus choose to be alone while he prayed. He needed that uninterrupted time with God to refresh & strengthen his soul. 


The next time I am feeling guilty I will go back to these verses and remind myself that even our almighty God needed rest. I cannot possibly run 7 days a week at 24 hrs a day. I am no good to anyone at that pace, especially myself.
So, I wanted to give ya’ll a list of things you can do when you need to spend time alone & recharge. 


Work Out
Not only does this help you physically, it also increases your body’s serotonin levels (which helps your body regulate your mood, sleep, and appetite). That is a win win in my book. You can tune into some good music, a good tv show, or even just silently be in your thoughts and talk to God. Whatever it may be, just move, sweat, and challenge your body. I promise you will not regret this. 

Write/Draw
I LOVE this the most (hence why I started a blog). It is so therapeutic for me when I take the time to reflect by writing in my journal, or be more creative in writing out quotes for inspiration. Sometimes even just drawing and practice my lettering. I am able to let go of my stresses and worries and just be present in the moment.

Take a walk out doors
This is honestly the best. You can take your dog alone for the journey as well. This can be as simple as walking around your neighborhood or going to your closest park and walking a trail. Wherever you can go to just separate yourself from the real world and just get some peace and quite. It is so soothing and relaxing. With this, you will also get some benefits of my first suggestion- working out. 

Take Time Off Of Social Media
This is literally GOLD. These days we spending so much time on social media. Now there as so many positives to these, but there are also so many negatives to this. I have really tried to set boundaries to social media in our home. Really because I see the effects it has on me as an adult, yet alone my children who still have so far to go in mental growth. A few hours, a whole night, a day, or a weekend without social media will only uplift your spirit. IF you allow it to. You can choose to be miserable wondering what social events your missing the details on. OR to embrace your reality and be present in the moments and memories your creating. 

Pamper Yourself
I am all about this. I would consider #1 and #3 to also fit into this category. Because it gives me the same type of feelings. But I also love a good Mani-Pedi, and when I am feeling really stressed out I will treat myself to a full body massage. I will also sometimes just take a nice and hot bath, light some candles, turn on some music, or one of my audible books. Whatever “pampering” looks like to you is fine. As big, or small of a gesture that may be. 

Read A Book
If I am being honest, I don’t typically read any book but the bible. My mind tends to wander when I try to read any book. So when I am “reading” a book I choose to do audio books on Audible. This is key to getting me out of my own head and to start thinking more practically. If you have the right book, it can be very relaxing, and uplifting. 

Listen To Christian Music
If you don’t listen to christian music, I feel like you are totally missing out- it is life changing!! I challenge you to listen to nothing but christian music a for a week, and see the effects it has on your mood. It’s uplifting, encouraging, and so much more. 


Meet A Friend For Coffee 

Maybe you are someone who likes to be around people to recharge. For me that would be attending a small group at church, or meeting a christian friend to talk about our faith. I am not someone who like to talk to someone about my struggles and they pity me. I can do that all on my own. I know the people who I can go to when I need help recharging, and resetting my attitude. But most of the time I do prefer to be alone in my thoughts. 


Take My Kids To The Park
I personally get satisfaction from taking my kids to the park to play. I think its because I am just outdoors (#3). But I also think its because I am also not alone. I am in the fresh air, watching the little people in my life that I work so hard to guide in this crazy world. It’s time that I can reflect on why I do the things I do. Seeing their smile, and hearing their laugh is the icing on the cake when I feel the sun kissing my skin. 


In pursuit of living a loved life, I strive to encourage women to go to a deeper place in their life with the Lord. Taking real-life steps forward to joy and freedom.
